The Event

On Friday, March 21, 2025, at Veranda, experience the power of connection at the Centre for Newcomers’ 8th Annual Fundraiser, where success converges with opportunity. This year’s event showcases the remarkable journeys of successful refugees alongside key figures from Calgary’s business and philanthropic sectors.


The Venue

Veranda at the Stables is a collaborative taproom and spirit hall from Vaycay Brew Co. and Burwood Distillery. The former Stables on the Currie Barracks was built in 1936, and one of Calgary’s most historic buildings is now a functional craft beverage production facility and lounge.


The Keynote Speaker

Dr. Jalees Razavi is a dedicated physician specializing in Occupational Medicine, with decades of experience improving workplace health and well-being. Recognized as a leader in his field, Dr. Razavi is also a trusted consultant for multinational corporations, excelling in crisis management, executive health evaluations, and employee assessment programs.


The Music

Alex Hughes, a dynamic and commanding pop-country vocalist, will take the stage with a blend of femininity and fierceness that always captivates audiences. Hailing from Calgary, Alex’s signature style combines a penchant for pop beats infused with contemporary country flair.


The Menu

A selection of delectable and delicious food items from the renowned Veranda kitchen will also be part of the evening, along with some cheesy snacks provided by Say Cheese Fromagerie, and a full-service bar that will include a signature “Centre for Newcomers” cocktail created by the Veranda’s very own magical mixologists.
