Our hearts ache for the countless souls who lost so much in the LA fires. We are proud to be building a place where the survivors of such a traumatic natural disaster, as well as the first responders who who put their lives on the line helping and saving those homes and communities, can come to find pieces of healing as they sift through the ashes and begin to put their lives back together. At <a href="https://www.horseplaycollective.org/" rel="noopener noreferrer" style="text-decoration-color:initial;user-select:auto;box-sizing:inherit" target="_blank">HorsePlay Collective</a> believe we can heal our community by harnessing the uniquely powerful connection between humans and horses in nature. Together, we are building a place where everyone can come and Give What They Can and Get What They Need and find healing through helping. So we are asking you to Please Pony Up to Open Up our Pastures for our Healing Herd so we can begin our mission of healing the countless trauma survivors in our community. While the location of our property is invaluable and unrivaled in its opportunity for client access and community partnerships, it was also wildly overgrown & raw land requiring a huge amount of work & investment on the front end before we can welcome our healing herd into our pastures. Given the populations of trauma survivors we will be serving, we will have access to tremendous grant funding for programming & operations once we are up and running. However, it is very difficult to be awarded funds for capital improvement and property development; and so we are asking you to help us complete the heavy lift of getting this dream off the ground.<ul><li style="box-sizing:inherit;color:rgb(0, 0, 0)">We have raised and spent ~$250,000 so far (as well as hundreds of hours of hard labor) preparing Reciprocity Ranch to be the home of the HorsePlay Collective; we need ~$250,000 more to open our pastures to our healing herd by April 1.</li><li style="box-sizing:inherit;color:rgb(0, 0, 0)">What we have done so far: replaced perimeter fence & repaired all existing pasture fencing, improved driveway & perimeter road, dug two steep 200-foot trenches to bring water & electricity to the property, tied in & brought water to the valley floor & back-filled the water trench, built electricity platform for SDG&E sub-meter, filled electricity trench with sand and conduit, dug out & repaired drainage throughout property, cleaned out & chipped entire 10-acre property and eradicated nuisance & toxic plants (wild artichokes, castor bean, pampas grass, stinging nettle & poison oak), built a 4-terraced orchard with compost from our wood pile and planted 40 fruit trees, worked on erosion control, improved entrance & built entry gate.</li><li style="box-sizing:inherit;color:rgb(0, 0, 0)">What we have left to do: purchase aluminum wire for electricity project, trench the property to bring water & electricity to all necessary locations, build 3-sided shade structures for each paddock, install automatic watering system for all paddocks, complete building village infrastructure, purchase con-ex containers for feed storage, etc., purchase sheds for our admin village, purchase horse supplies (food bins, troughs, barrels, round-pen panels, etc.), build a portable restroom trailer, build retaining walls to protect against further erosion, pave our driveway.</li></ul></li><li style="box-sizing:inherit">Donated & Discounted Ranch & Horse Supplies: We are looking for & in need of everything it takes to run a horse ranch, and we don't need it to be new & shiny!
