This experience has been life-changing for me as it allowed me to discover another reality of life. There’s a saying: “We don’t realize how fortunate we are until we no longer have it.” Being fully immersed with refugees made me aware of the privileges we have, like access to clean water, enough food to eat, and the simple ability to wash in hot water. Finally, I am grateful to have had the opportunity to shed light on the living conditions of these refugees, which I hope will raise awareness among many people.
Gnaviksha Devi Bhujun
2024 GSPIA Imagination Fund Recipient
At the GSPIA, we don’t just provide a rich, diverse, and inclusive educational experience. We also broaden our students' horizons by offering our students one-of-a-kind opportunities outside the classroom. Whether these take place overseas or in our nation’s capital, our commitment to our students remains the same: excellence, inclusion, and removing barriers to higher education.
Established by our Student Council, the fund aims to remove financial barriers to success through grants. These will help students participate in internships and student exchanges in Canada and abroad, student-led projects and summer courses with other institutions. The fund may also assist students to present in conferences and undertake any other scholastic activities which will translate in remarkable learning experiences.
Here’s how your donations helped our students in 2024:
Gnaviksha Devi Bhujun’s scholarship helped cover the costs of field work in Dominican Republic, where she studied the living conditions of Haitian refugees as part of a documentary project. This documentary aims to raise public awareness and illustrate the testimonies she collected on site. The release of the documentary, which she is producing alone, is scheduled for the end of 2025.
Victoria Rose King’s scholarship covered the costs of attending a summer course on victimology, criminology, and criminal justice at the Inter-University Centre Dubrovnik in Croatia. She also had the honour of presenting in front of colleagues from across the world on the topic of "Gender Responsive Peacebuilding: Exploring the Victimization of Women in Conflict-Affected Regions”.
Mohammad Nur Nabi’s scholarship covered the costs of attending the 13th Annual Mapping the Global Dimensions of Policy Conference at McMaster University, where he presented his MRP on Canada’s foreign policy shifts towards China between 1990 and 2022. The feedback he received from experts and peers helped him clarify and refine his ideas, while also enhancing the paper's rigor and depth through constructive criticism.
Help us ensure that financial need is not a barrier to fulfilling their dreams.
