If you weren't able to purchase a ticket but still want to participate in the fun, come and check out the free Kootenay Mushroom Festival Market at the Kaslo Legion and Langham, 10am to 4pm. Local artisans, food producers, foragers, growers, artists, and more!

Come join us at the 3rd annual Kootenay Mushroom Festival in beautiful Kaslo, BC for a fungi-filled weekend of fun! Whether you're a seasoned forager or just curious about the world of mushrooms, this event is perfect for you. Enjoy guided mushroom forays, talks from experts in the field, unique hands-on workshops, a mushroom-themed artisan market and more. Don't miss out on the chance to taste some delicious mushroom dishes at our special mushroom dinner and social (separately ticketed). We can't wait to see you there!


SCHEDULE for SATURDAY, OCTOBER 12, 2024

8:30-9:00am | Registration and opening remarks

9:00am-9:30am | Light breakfast and connect with foray groups

9:30am-12:00pm | Guided forays with expert leaders

12:00-1:30pm | Lunch break | Browse the Mushroom Market, visit the ID tables, and take in a special musical performance

1:30-2:45pm | Mushroom Talk | Each participant will attend a lecture of their choosing; topics include "Fungi as Indicators of Forest Health," "Medicinal Mushrooms for Cancer Care," and "Mushroom ID and discussion"

2:45-3:45pm | Afternoon break | Special talk at 3pm "Amanita Muscaria - Access your highest potential," browse the Mushroom Market and mushroom ID tables

3:45-5:00pm | Hands-on workshop | Each participant will choose one sessions per time slot.

5:30pm onwards | Multi-course mushroom dinner and social at the Waypoint Restaurant in the Kaslo Hotel | Dinner Menu | ***Paid add-on! Be sure to buy in advance to avoid disappointment and hunger. All-ages. Alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages will be available for sale.***


AFTERNOON WORKSHOP OPTIONS- please choose one when purchasing your ticket

  • Advanced Mushroom ID - Tyson Ehlers
    Join local legend Tyson Ehlers for a spirited discussion of mushroom identification around the ID tables. Get your toughest mushroom ID questions answered, and build your skills for future forays!
  • Willow Weaving Workshop - Candice Cullum
    Learn the basics of willow weaving from wildcrafter and basket master Candice Cullum. Leave with a beautiful and functional mushroom drying tray you make from locally foraged materials!
  • Mushrooms for Cognitive Mental Health Support - Patrick Kooyman
    Herbalist Patrick Kooyman (Blue Lotus Ethnobotanicals) introduces us to some fungal allies that are especially effective for brain and nervous system health. Sample some tinctures and other mushroom medicines made by the expert himself!
  • Forage to Table: Cooking with Mushrooms- Ryan Steffler
    Join Chef Ryan Steffler (Counter-Cultured Foods, the Cultured Kitchen) for a live cooking demonstration featuring fine foraged and farmed local mushrooms. Cap the session off with some delicious samples of the gourmet creations!
  • Making a Mushroom Log - Rob Macrae
    Create your own perennial oyster mushroom log in this engaging, hands-on course that also includes a history of mushroom cultivation. All participants leave with their own log and the knowledge to do it again in the future!
  • Making a Mycofilter- Erik Hrabovsky
    In this mycofilter discussion and practical session, Erik Hrabovski shows us methods for partnering with fungi to improve ecological health and purify our waters.

No refunds, barring extenuating circumstances.

Children under 12 are welcome to attend the morning foray for free, as long as they're accompanied by a parent holding a General Admission ticket. Children who wish to participate in the afternoon workshops or mushroom dinner will require their own tickets.

Unfortunately pets are not allowed as we've had some issues in the past, so please leave your fur babies at home.

General admission ticket includes daytime guided forays and workshops. Please indicate which afternoon workshop you'd like to attend (see workshop descriptions in main event details). Dinner is NOT included in this ticket - please purchase dinner ticket separately if you'd like to attend.
