Taking the Lane: A Velolaw workshop with Ian Brisbin

Event closed

On June 6th, Ian Brisbin will be doing a workshop on how knowing your rights and responsibilities will help you to ride more confidently, assertively and safely. This event will be hosted at New Hope Community Bikes from 7-8:30pm. There will be some time for Q and A and the shop will be open for purchases.

About Ian Brisbin:

Ian Brisbin has been recognized by his peers as one of Canada’s “Best Lawyers” practicing personal law since 2019, and has been serving the Hamilton and Halton area, and across Ontario for over twenty years. He's represented people from all walks of life in claims arising from motor vehicle collisions (suffered by cyclists, pedestrians or drivers), dangerous property and the denial of long-term disability insurance benefits amongst many others.

He continues to practice in the broader personal injury space, but Ian's is particularly passionate about Velolaw.ca. Velolaw is the part of his practice through which Ian expresses his love for cycling, his determination to represent injured cyclists and his joy from fomenting community and advocating for active transportation in the public interest. He has a long record of service to his communities, particularly through chairing numerous non-for-profit boards of directors,

each with declared social justice equity-promoting missions.

Despite a wholesale lack of success in any given discipline, Ian fancies himself a passionate cyclist for all seasons. That said, he's competed in many cycling races, particularly on road, gravel and mountain bikes, and loves long days in the saddle with friends old and new.

He's completed an Ironman, six marathons (including two Bostons) and really needs to pick up the pace training for an upcoming Ironman 70.3 (checks calendar...oh boy)...soon.

Ian lives in Hamilton with his spouse, two teen girls, and Willow the Bernese Mountain Dog where he also struggles when asked to write a short bio for himself.
