Join us for a six week Speakers Series regarding: The Next Steps:  Life Without A Cure.

This six-week series is a free event being hosted by the Beth Donovan Hospice through a generous grant from the OutCare Fund.  

Each week starting on Thursday May 16th we will host guest speakers who will speak on a variety of subjects including:

What is Palliative Care? 

Navigating Life - Changing Diagnosis.

Important Conversations with your Palliative Care Team.

Practical Aspects to consider in Dying and Death.

Difficult Conversations.

Hospice as part of your Care Team.

All events except for Navigating Life - Changing Diagnosis (this session will be held at Parish Hall on the Kemptville Campus) will be held at the Beth Donovan Hospice.

Week 1 - What is Palliative Care?
Free
Our guest speaker will discuss what is palliative care, when to make the shift to palliative care, explain palliative care and what can be offered as well as the stages of death. We will also talk about MAID/Palliative sedation as well as goals of care - life expectancy. This session is at the Beth Donovan Hospice and will start at 5:30pm.

Week 2 - Navigating Life - Changing Diagnosis
Free
Our guest speakers are Dr. Sammy Winemaker and Dr. Hsien Seow, Canadian authors who wrote the book Hope For the Best, Plan for the Rest. They will speak about the inevitable disappointment and unmet expectations. The first 75 guest to attend this event will get a copy of their book. This session is at Parish Hall on Kemptville Campus. The doors open at 4:15pm for refreshments and hors d'ouevres. Presentation will start at 4:45pm.

Week 3 - Important Conversations with a Palliative Care Team

Our guest speaker this week is Dr. Tania Zakem. She will be talking about how to have important conversations with your palliative care team as well as how to self advocate. She will discuss defining your goals of care. This session is at the Beth Donovan Hospice and will start at 5:30pm.

Week 4 - Practical Aspects to Consider in Dying & Death

Our guest speakers for this week is Samantha Rivet-Stevenson, Sherron Walls from RBC as well as Mark Dayneka from Hulse Playfair and McGarry Funeral Home. They will discuss practical aspects to consider in dying and death and what you need to get done. What you need to do after you make your death arrangements such as finances, Power of Attorney, Wills etc... This session is at the Beth Donovan Hospice and will start at 5:30pm.

The staff at Beth Donovan Hospice will be on hand to discuss how we can be a part of your care. We will share what we can offer, and how to access services and resources locally. This session is at the Beth Donovan Hospice and will start at 5:30pm.
