A new script, with accompanying installation by Bundon Pfeifer Henderson, imagines a private meeting between Athol “Père” Murray and Tommy Douglas. This fictional encounter occurs during Saskatchewan’s bitter Doctors' Strike in July 1962, when doctors refused to practice, hoping to enshrine their ability to determine fees and to deny patients who couldn't pay. The strike lasted 22 days, resulting in the Saskatchewan Medical Care Insurance Act—the foundation of modern national healthcare. Tommy and Pèreevokes the seething tension between opposing perspectives during those crucial 3 weeks in Saskatchewan.
