NEW YORK GIRLS WRITING CIRCLE -FREE SUMMER PROGRAM

Our six-week program empowered 27 system-impacted BIPOC/AAPI girls and gender non-conforming NYC high school students by creating paid opportunities and providing essential resources. With your support, we offered:

  • Resources: Free Chromebooks, lunches, and essential supplies to ensure every participant had the tools needed to thrive.
  • Artist Engagement: Hands-on sessions with leading artists like Tauba Auerbach, Lena Henke, Maria de Victoria, and Julia Norton, offering unique mentorship and creative inspiration.
  • Industry Professional Workshops: Guidance from top industry leaders such as Ebony L. Haynes, Gia Kuan, Marcella Zimmerman, and Seth Stolbun, preparing students for careers in the arts.
  • Field Trips: Visits to cultural landmarks, including the Brooklyn Museum and Canal Street Projects, immersing students in the heart of New York's creative landscape.
  • Skill Development: Training in professional writing, LinkedIn profile creation, and Canva design, equipping students with valuable, marketable skills.

To raise $25,000, we can break down the funding needs for each essential program component, giving donors a clear understanding of how their contributions directly benefit participants. Here’s how the budget could look:
  1. Resources - $5,000

    • Chromebooks for each student ($150 each x 27 students = $4,050)
    • Lunches for six weeks (approximately $5 per student per day = $750)
    • Supplies (notebooks, pens, other essentials = $200)
  2. Artist Engagement - $4,000

    • Honorariums for participating artists (covering 5 artist sessions at $800 each)
  3. Industry Professional Workshops - $5,500

    • Honorariums for industry leaders (4 workshops at $1,000 each = $4,000)
    • Workshop Materials and Setup (supplies, space rental, if needed = $1,500)
  4. Field Trips - $4,000

    • Transportation and Entry Fees for 27 students and staff to cultural venues, including the Brooklyn Museum and Canal Street Projects.
  5. Skill Development - $3,500

    • Professional Writing Training materials and guides ($500)
    • LinkedIn Profile Development assistance ($1,000 for a professional coach)
    • Canva and Creative Design Training ($2,000 for licenses, trainer fees, and guides)
  6. Program Administration and Support - $3,000

    • Program Coordination costs to ensure smooth operation, including part-time staff support and logistical expenses.

Each dollar raised will help us reach our $25,000 goal to provide critical support to these young individuals, covering everything from practical resources to transformative experiences with artists and industry leaders.
