General Fund Donation

Horizons Collective Inc. is a new non-profit based out of Aurora, CO. We are in the heart of where most sober living houses currently are, and therefore already have many potential residents waiting for the opportunity to feel stability for the first time in their life.

Stability is the biggest thing lacking in the sober community. We are starting something because we see a huge gap and need in the 'industry' that is a for-profit sober living enterprise. What seems like a beautiful thing to do for another person ends up corrupted by social politics, zero tolerance policies that will push people out on the street without a moments notice - whether it's for lack of funds, lack of Medicaid/Disability, or a mistake made by a human being who still deserves respect, kindness, and an opportunity to right their wrong.

This lack of a solidity to their housing causes many people to relapse or attempt suicide. This is where we will draw the line in the sand and keep true to our mission. We will honor the mission of stability in sobriety and lead by example when conflicts or challenges arise.

Another major dilemma is the lack of true therapy and positivity. Our peers are commendable in their efforts, we just see a gap in the quality of group meetings - especially considering how much Medicaid is paying for them! We need to squash the drama-filled "Real Worlds" style house meetings, and have an actual structure the way a family would have in a household. Have clearly outlined, understood and posted rules that are easy to follow with an advocate outside of the house that can mediate issues - rather than peers overreacting and making poor judgement calls when in the heat of the moment.

This donation will help a lot to achieve our mission. We'll be able to :

- Our General Fund -

This will support our overall organization and the operating costs of a non-profit. This includes helping pay things like our software subscription fees, website costs, bank fees, printing costs, health insurance and general liability insurance.

- Our Group Meetings -

Funding will also go towards group meetings that will be open to residents and non-residents as well. This will include group therapy, refreshments, support, books and audible credits for recommended books.

- Our Sober Housing Program -

This fund will help us both in getting our housing project up and running immediately, it will also help us keep the housing project funded for a long time to come with investments in real estate and land. Initially we will have a men's only house, but we would love to expand that to include a women's facility. Initially, we plan on renting a house while we build the fund up to purchase a foreclosed home at auction, which we will then also renovate for our residents.

Often the rent charged to residents only covers the rent charged by a landlord, so until we own a house outright, the deficit of funding that will be needed to help residents when they can't afford a payment (often due to things like Medicaid errors, or delays by the government). We would also like to offer some assistance when those times occur and residents need to renew a prescription or see a doctor but can't afford to during those gaps in coverage from Medicaid.

- Our Job Opportunities Program -

We would love to offer job opportunities, training and assistance. Initially we will be able to offer things like budgeting, job resume assistance, job locating and application assistance. We hope to also use this to create jobs and offer competitive pay and benefits.

We will be expanding the job program as funds and opportunities arise. The projects on the table right now include IT/Computer or Phone repair and Landscaping. We have backgrounds in both and they are great opportunities that don't require a lot of skill to get started in.

The landscape project can hit the ground running with basic necessities like bags, yard tools, and word-of-mouth canvasing for the opportunity to do basic yard maintenance. The idea of this project is that anyone can 'garden' to various degrees, and therefore this can be the perfect job opportunity for residents and members who struggle to find steady employment.
