The Judy Garland Museum is raising money to purchase a pair of Ruby Slippers worn by Judy Garland in the 1939 film, "The Wizard of Oz." This pair of slippers is going to auction on December 7, 2024. The expected value of the shoes is between $3 - $5 million.
The Judy Garland Museum is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization (41-1790485) that has been sharing the life and legacy of Judy Garland since 1975. We have her childhood home on our property with a gallery full of treasures including the original pieces from the film: Carriage, Winkie Spear, and a test dress worn by Judy. She went through many troubles during her short life but recalled her years in Grand Rapids, MN as a child “a terribly happy time in her life.” Over the past 50 years, we lovingly restored her childhood home and created a gallery to share her life and legacy at the Judy Garland Museum®. We have also opened the Children’s Discovery Museum in her honor; a place that enriches young children through learning experiences that are hands-on, educational, and fun!
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz has signed a Legacy Amendment appropriation of $100,000 for our non-profit museum to facilitate the purchase leveraging private funds. We are looking for contributions large and small. If we can get 250,000 people to donate $20, we will have reached our goal. Join our social media campaign by creating a video of yourself clicking your heals three times, donating, and nominating others to join this unique campaign.
“Then close your eyes and tap your heels together three times. And think to yourself, there’s no place like home.” The ruby slippers need a home, and we think it is fitting to have a pair in a place where Judy Garland was happy and is celebrated. “The Wizard of Oz” and these shoes mean so much to people from around the world, it would be a shame to have them locked up by a private collector. The public deserves a pair to cherish in small town, Midwest America.
Since this is a public auction, we will not be sharing too much about what we have raised as we don't want to set the minimum bid for the auction. If we are unable to secure the slippers, all funds donated on this platform will go towards a Wizard of Oz/Judy Garland themed miniature golf course at the museum. This attraction will be an additional earned revenue stream for our non-profit that can be used by visitors of all ages.
We greatly appreciate your support & spreading the word of this rare & significant opportunity.
