Our father, James E. Wheeler amassed one of the largest Black film and memorabilia collections in the world. We have the responsibility and privilege to preserve our late father's legacy.
In the spirit of revitalization, we have formed The Black Canon Collection, a non-profit dedicated to preserving and promoting African-American literary, performing, visual, and media arts.
We are at risk of this history being lost. The magnificence of Black art deteriorating. The proof of a Black Renaissance being forgotten.
We are in the process of archiving this vast collection, but have reached a standstill due to lack of funding.
We are seeking support to assist with the overhead costs to maintain the physical housing of the collection, as we continue to build resources for our historic preservation.
As we embark on the cataloging and archiving of this extraordinary collection, to share it with the world, we can’t do it alone. We are simply everyday people approaching this with heart and adrenaline. Not willing to let his dream die. Not willing to let the beauty the collection possesses, die.
Please contribute to help us make history. All funds directly support these efforts and are tax deductible.
With this donation, we'll be able to:
- Continue to house and archive the 40,000+ artifacts in our collection
- Better preserve those artifacts
- Create powerful educational exhibits
