Striving to Improve Literacy in Guatemala

We are striving to improve literacy in Guatemala by fostering and supporting libraries, schools and teachers to promote reading in the classroom and at home.

Guatemala is the country with the lowest literacy rate in Latin America and our goal is to support Mil Milagros’ work in rural Mayan villages in the Santa Lucia area to improve literacy for children.  This year we hope to support Mil Milagros in training 30 new teachers in literacy skills and providing them with children's books that they can use to implement what they have been taught as well as to continue supporting the teachers who have previously participated in the course..

Your donations at the levels below can help their Mayan staff reach those teachers and implement their program:

$50- covers the cost of a bookcase to house the classroom library

$250- provides funding for a classroom library for a trained teacher

$300- provides funding for a classroom library for a trained teacher including a bookcase

$1,000- Supports literacy training for one teacher

(Additionally, Zeffy will ask for a donation to cover the costs of providing an online donation platform for non-profits with zero fees. Feel free to donate to Zeffy, or use the drop down menu to select "Other" and put in an amount you prefer (can be $0)).
