A Fundraiser for Layers of Change RVA

Layers of Change was born from a shelter cot, $5,000 in mutual aid, and the belief that trans people deserve more than survival—we deserve safety, celebration, and self-determination.

We’ve grown into a grassroots, trans-led network that stabilizes, heals, and uplifts TGNC folks across Richmond and beyond. We’re not a handout. We’re a hand to hold. We’re not just an organization—we’re a community of care built from lived experience, queer brilliance, and fierce imagination.

🧠 What We Do Now

In our first year, we’ve:

• Supported 34 people in accessing gender-affirming care

• Redistributed 2,500+ clothing items and 22 phones/laptops

• Helped 3 trans people relocate and find safety and community

• Provided peer-led trauma groups, recovery meetings, housing navigation, and resource support

• Trained 3 peer recovery specialists and hosted 10 community education sessions

• Held visioning sessions for trans futures beyond survival

• Built strong partnerships with orgs like The Dandelion Hive, ACLU of VA, Grimalkin, and more

• Launched a music therapy program, container garden, and the region’s only TGNC-specific recovery group

And we’ve done it all with no salaries, no corporate grants, and less than $5,000 in funds.
