You Can Be Guardian's Hero!

Retired Guardian Fireboat No. 2 is a piece of San Francisco firefighting history.

Guardian Fireboat No. 2 is a 1951 fireboat that proudly served Vancouver, B.C. before she was decommissioned and purchased by anonymous donors for the City of San Francisco in the wake of the devastation caused by the 1989 Loma Prieta Earthquake.

In 1990, Guardian joined Fireboat No. 1, Phoenix as protectors of the city. To this day, Guardian

remains one of the strongest pumping systems ever built, flowing 28,000 gallons per minute through her six fully functional monitors.

Guardian was officially retired by the City in 2022, and was purchased at auction by a handful of committed individuals with backgrounds across fire service, maritime, and business, with the intention of preserving and restoring her, sharing her with the public, and keeping her active on SF Bay.

With your support, Guardian will live on, operating in SF Bay waters for years to come.

Plans for Guardian include:

  • Providing free rides to the public, especially children and those who otherwise lack access to the water
  • Making celebratory appearances on the Bay for various events
  • Becoming the sole Type 1 Fireboat Training Facility on the West Coast for firefighters and mariners
  • Acting as a floating maritime and fire service history museum – in partnership with th Guardians of the CIty Museum in San Francisco
  • A venue for dockside celebrations and memorials for First Responders and their families
  • A standby vessel to help Bay Area waterfront communities, should the next "big one" ever strike the area.

Please consider donating to help bring Guardian back to the beauty we all know she can be.
