Friends of The Northern Rail Trail is an all-volunteer nonprofit established to improve, maintain and promote the Trail we love. FNRT volunteer crews have worked to maintain a safe and enjoyable 4 season recreational experience for cycling, walking, horseback riding, snowmobiling and x-country skiing. We have established a collaborative relationship with the State of NH Bureau of Trails and apply for Recreational Trails Program grants to fund improvements to the Trail that are only reimbursed at 80%. The additional 20% is an expense we need to fund.
In addition, we share costs with the NH Bureau of Trails to repair 56 bridges on the trail. Our trail maintenance volunteer crew includes chainsaw teams that removed 200 fallen trees in 2024. We also mow the trail annually, clear clogged culverts and resurface weather damaged portions of the trail as needed. We estimate between 175,000 and 200,000 uses of the Trail per year.
How you can help power our mission:
Donate: Every dollar counts! 93% of your contribution goes directly to maintaining a safe trail. The remainder is spent annual operating expenses.
"Get on It" & Share: Share the wonderful experience you had on the 59 mile Northern Rail Trail by posting on our social media pages and signing up for our monthly newsletter on the home page of our website, FNRT.org.
Volunteer: Your time and skills can make an impact too. FNRT's all volunteer, 12 member Board of Directors, 40 member trail maintenance team, promotion and technology volunteers are always interested in welcoming others to join in. Please contact us at info@fnrt.org if you are considering volunteering.
Thank you for using the Northern and supporting our mission!
