The AFC Ann Arbor Foundation is excited to announce the launch of the David Hebestreit Coaching Scholarship Fund. 

This initiative aims to encourage, and provide financial support to individuals from underrepresented communities to pursue soccer coaching licenses.

The fund is named in honor of David Hebestreit, AFC Ann Arbor's original head coach. Coach Hebestreit was instrumental in building the foundation of the club, shaping its culture, and leading the team to its first-ever trophy. Beyond his coaching accolades, David was a true gentleman who cared deeply for his players and the community. He will be remembered for his kindness, his humor, and his unwavering belief in the power of sport to bring people together.

"David Hebestreit was an extraordinary coach and an even better person," said Mike Lorenc, President of AFC Ann Arbor Foundation. "His legacy extends far beyond the soccer field. He was a mentor, a friend, and an inspiration to many. We are proud to launch this scholarship fund in his name to continue his work of building a more inclusive and welcoming soccer community."

The David Hebestreit Coaching Scholarship Fund will provide financial assistance to individuals who face barriers to entry in the coaching profession, including but not limited to:

• Women
• People of color
• Individuals from low-income backgrounds

The scholarship will cover the costs of coaching courses, licensing fees, and other related expenses.

We believe that it is essential to have a diverse pool of coaches who can serve as role models for young people.  By providing financial support to underrepresented communities, we can help create a more equitable and inclusive soccer environment.

The AFC Ann Arbor Foundation is committed to supporting the broader development of soccer and fostering community engagement within the Ann Arbor region. The David Hebestreit Coaching Scholarship Fund is one of many initiatives that the Foundation is undertaking to achieve this goal.
