The Ashley Gongaware Kertes Fund was created by Ashley’s family to preserve her legacy of kindness and compassion by raising funds for the District's most vulnerable students. The Fund, in partnership with the Greensburg Salem Education Foundation, will remove financial barriers for K-12 students who wish to participate in after-school and/or extracurricular activities. Through her work at Greensburg Salem as the Associate Administrator to the Superintendent & Community Outreach, Ashley fervently believed that no student's potential should be limited by their household income. She cared deeply about GS students and her community, and always strove to treat everyone she met with dignity, respect, and an empathetic ear.

Prior to her work with the District she served as the Executive Director of the Greensburg Community Development Corporation, where, among many of her accomplishments, she created Greensburg’s Hometown Hero Banner Project, which continues to honor the service of local veterans and community members. She also launched Greensburg Restaurant Week which highlights the City’s restaurant scene and drives business to the Downtown sector. 

Ashley was an amazing daughter, granddaughter, sister, wife, aunt, and friend who would stop at nothing to care for those she loved. She was also an avid animal lover who was known to rescue abandoned animals including cats, birds, and ducklings. Ashley passed away in March 2023 at 36 due to a genetic heart condition but her achievements continue to benefit Greensburg and reflect her beautiful and generous soul. She is an inspiration to those who were lucky enough to have known her as we strive to carry on her work of bettering our community and supporting those in need.
