Oyez, oyez!UOAeronautics est l’équipe de conception aéronautique et le club d’aviation de l’Université d’Ottawa. C’est la première année que notre équipe participe à une compétition, et c’est un bonheur d’avoir enfin la chance de voir comment notre avion se comportera lors de la compétition. Mais pour ça, nous avons besoin de votre aide! La compétition à laquelle nous allons participer est la <a href="https://www.sae.org/attend/student-events/sae-aero-design-east/" rel="noopener noreferrer" style="text-decoration-color:currentcolor;user-select:auto;box-sizing:inherit" target="_blank">SAE Aero Design East 2025</a>. Elle aura lieu à Fort Worth, au Texas. Nous compétitionnerons dans la catégorie Micro, où l’objectif est de concevoir et de fabriquer un petit avion porteur à décollage et atterrissage courts (STOL) capable de soulever autant d’eau que possible tout en conservant une envergure minimale. Parmi les autres défis de notre catégorie, citons la capacité de larguer la totalité de notre charge d’eau en moins de 60 secondes et celle de réaliser un circuit de vol précis. L’objectif des défis de notre catégorie est de nous amener à développer un aéronef qui pourrait être mis en œuvre à plus grande échelle et utilisé dans la lutte contre les incendies par des systèmes autonomes partout au Canada afin de protéger nos forêts. Comme il s’agit de notre première année de compétition, les coûts sont plus élevés que jamais. Grâce à notre partenaire DuPont, nous avons obtenu toute la mousse dont nous aurons besoin pour le prototypage et la construction. Mais votre équipe d’aviation préférée a besoin de beaucoup plus encore pour se rendre au Texas, le printemps prochain.Comment nous aider? Hear ye, Hear ye!UOAeronautics is the University of Ottawa’s dedicated aeronautic design team and aviation club. This is the very first year that our team is competing and we are all thrilled to finally get a chance to see how our aircraft will perform in competition. But for that to happen, we need your help! We hope to take our aircraft to compete in the <a href="https://www.sae.org/attend/student-events/sae-aero-design-east/" rel="noopener noreferrer" style="text-decoration-color:currentcolor;user-select:auto;box-sizing:inherit" target="_blank">2025 SAE Aero Design East competition</a>, which will be held in Fort Worth, Texas in May. We’ll be competing in the Micro Class, where the goal is to design and manufacture a small-scale, short take-off and landing (STOL) carrier aircraft that can lift as much water as possible, all while minimizing its wingspan. Our category also includes other challenges, such as releasing our entire water payload in under 60 seconds and completing a specific flight circuit. All challenges in our class aim to develop an aircraft that could be scaled up and used for unmanned firefighting across Canada, helping us protect our forests. Given that this is our first year of competition, our costs are even steeper. Thanks to our partner DuPont, we have secured all the foam we will need for prototyping and construction, but there is still much more needed to get your favourite team’s plane off the ground and off to Texas this spring.How can you help?
