The Community Enrichment Laboratory for Learning Sciences (CELLS) is a nonprofit startup that aims to foster interdisciplinary learning and collaboration by establishing an innovative cluster of Makerspaces in Frederick, MD. Our goal is to provide students, scientists, artists, professionals, and DIY enthusiasts with access to laboratory and makerspace tools to investigate and experiment through interactive, guided projects, classes, and workshops.

As a nonprofit startup, CELLS is run entirely by passionate volunteers who donate their time and help us gather the necessary resources!

The expenses of our program include rent, insurance, legal services, equipment and consumable supplies. Donations make our program possible. We are also working on obtaining grants. 

Your donation will help us offer affordable and some free activities to the community during our early start-up phase! We appreciate greatly all support!

Here are some examples of how your donation can help this is not a complete list: 

• $5 covers the materials needed for 10 participants to learn about electricity and circuits and for each to make a flashlight.
• $10 funds the consumables needed for 10 participants to master micropipetting  
• $15 funds the materials needed for a DNA extraction class for 10 participants, each completing their own experiment.
• $25 covers the materials needed for 10 participants to learn and try Agar Art, each making three paintings. Or the consumable materials to learn and perform gel electrophoresis.
• $75 lets us purchase one entry-level gel electrophoresis apparatus.
• $100 will let us purchase electronic components for projects and classes
• $150 funds a class with a volunteer instructor for 8 participants to learn to modify bacteria genetically
• $300 Allows us to buy a mini 3D printer and filament for teaching; our goal is to have four mini 3D printers for group classes  
• $300 allows us to buy a set of commercial-grade micropipettes or consumables for a group of 8 participants to learn how to control gene expression through genetic engineering
• $400 can fund the purchase of a Lego BricQ Motion Prime set to learn coding and robotics
• $500 lets us purchase a classroom kit of snapcircuits to teach electric circuits and their use
• $600 covers the consumables to offer a Biotech Bootcamp Course for 10 participants

Your donation may be used toward the materials for a class, purchasing equipment, or paying expenses such as rent, insurance, and legal consulting. We are greatful for your generosity and for helping us fulfill our mission!
