As the genocide in Palestine unfolds, the MSU and greater East Lansing community remember Tariq Thabet, a promising Palestinian program manager and advocate for peace from Gaza who tragically lost his life in the ongoing violence. He participated in the prestigious Humphrey Fellowship program at Michigan State University, fostering connections with our community and teaching the beauty of Palestine. While the occupation continues its violence in Palestine and across the Arab world– such as in Lebanon, Syria, and Yemen– we see travesties affecting our students here. 

MSU Arab Cultural Society, in collaboration with Students United for Palestinian Rights, have created The Tariq Thabet Memorial Grant to honor Tariq’s life along with the 15 members of his family that passed away. The grant helps provide crucial financial assistance for higher education to talented Arab students impacted by the ongoing violence. 

Your contribution helps remove barriers to education and empower students to pursue dreams of enacting positive change. Donations directly support scholarships covering academic costs like tuition, books, fees and living expenses for students at Michigan State University. Tariq represented the spirit of academic excellence and cross-cultural understanding that the Humphrey Fellowship aims to foster between Michigan State University and international students.
