Who We Are:OurAVL.org is a community-based organization dedicated to advocating for marginalized communities in Asheville, NC. Our mission is to provide immediate relief in times of crisis while also addressing long-term needs through community organizing, advocacy, and support. With Hurricane Helene causing unprecedented devastation, we have shifted our efforts to focus on helping those most affected by the storm.

Our Current Focus:

1. Immediate Crisis ReliefIn the wake of Hurricane Helene, many residents of Asheville, especially in marginalized communities, have lost their homes, jobs, and access to essential services. Roads are washed out, homes are flooded, and entire neighborhoods remain cut off from help.

At OurAVL.org, we are actively working to:

• Conduct wellness checks in hard-to-reach areas.

• Identify community connectors that assist with arranging deliveries of critical supplies (food, water, medical supplies) to residents without access to city resources.

• Provide fuel for vehicles and logistical support to reach isolated communities.

2. Long-Term Community SupportWhile the immediate crisis is our top priority, we know the recovery process will be long and challenging. Many families have already lost their homes or jobs, and others are at risk of losing theirs as the economic fallout continues.

That’s why OurAVL.org is committed to:

• Organizing and advocating for individuals and families displaced by the storm.

• Developing strategies for community engagement and mobilization to ensure that the voices of those most affected are heard in future rebuilding and recovery efforts.
