What does inclusion mean to you?
"Inclusion, as a mom of an autistic child, means ensuring that your child is embraced, valued,
and supported in all environments—school, social settings, and the community—while recognizing
and celebrating their unique needs and strengths. It involves advocating for equitable opportunities
for your child to participate alongside their peers, ensuring accommodations are made when
necessary, and fostering environments where differences are not only accepted but appreciated.
Inclusion also extends to building awareness and understanding among others to create a culture of respect and belonging for your child."
About them:
"My name is Luz, and I am a proud mom of three boys, two of whom are neurodivergent.
Through my journey as a parent, I discovered a deep passion for advocacy and inclusion,
aiming to create spaces where everyone can thrive. Currently, I work as a substitute
Special Education Paraprofessional in the Tumwater School District, while pursuing my
master's degree in Teaching. This path allows me to merge my personal experiences
with my professional aspirations, driving my commitment to empowering students and
building inclusive communities."
