He leaves behind 3 children,  his mother, his sister, and his granddaughter. The contributions raised here will go to support Rick's family, who will be the first grant recipients of the Rick Thompson Memorial Fund.  A man of many strengths- a journalist, an activist, a father, a mentor, and for many of us- a friend. Rick built everything he ever had with pure grit, dedication, and passion. Rick was the Executive Director of MINORML- the largest consumer led cannabis organization in the State of Michigan. He was influential in launching MDP Cannabis Caucus, Michigan Association of Compassion Clubs, and the MCFC. Rick is known for giving his time to others by being involved in MIASA and MILeagize as a former board member. He was committed to his community thru his work at the John Sinclair Foundation, the Michael Thompson Clemency Project, and Redemption Foundation. He is known for founding CRA Consumer Connection Work Group and MCBD (Michigan Cannabis Business Development). A journalist and published author, Rick wrote for several publications including High Times, Skunk Magazine, Michigan Medical Marijuana Magazine, the Compassion Chronicles, and the Social Revolution. Rick was beloved by his community and the industry in which he served- hosting multiple podcasts throughout  the years- most notably Jazz Cabbage Cafe, with his best friend Jamie Lowell, the  Four20Post, and Planet Green Trees. He was most proud of his work advocating and fighting for others.  Rick loved the Redemption Foundation for all that it stands for- justice, recovery, and community. He built the Foundation to be a safety net for poor and unjust policy.
