Support Washington Project for the Arts: “Art That Brings People Together” ~ GOAL: $23k for 2023!

Campaign

Support WPA and the future of contemporary art in Washington, DC. Help us raise $23k in 2023!

Washington Project for the Arts is a nonprofit incubator and publisher for artist-organized projects, building community through collaborations, experimentation, and advocacy.

Donations from individuals have been critical to our success in 2023—

In 2023, support from individuals made it possible for WPA to:

  • uplift the work of more than 250 artists
  • engage audiences in excess of 1,300 people
  • organize three artist residencies and two exhibitions
  • publish one book
  • present more than 30 public programs
  • produce our first-ever symposium
  • and redistribute over $200k to artists through grants, honoraria, and sales of artwork

As we’ve recently welcomed a new Director and two new Board members to our tiny-but-mighty team, we feel freshly inspired by the future we are building together with your support.

WPA’s mission to bring people together through art has never been more relevant, or necessary.

This moment—in which the world’s prolonged recovery from the traumas of Covid has been complicated by so much upheaval and instability—demands an art space that can support shared moments of reflection, healing, and dreaming… a space for artists and audiences to imagine new paths forward together. This is the work that WPA does so well and the work that we’re excited to take further in collaboration with you and the artists whom your donations will support in the year ahead.

Looking towards the new year… YOUR SUPPORT TODAY will make it possible for WPA to redistribute, once again, over $200k to artists.

Plus, in 2024 we will:

  • launch our first-ever symposium publication, “How can we gather now?,” a compendium of essays, reflections, and experiments featuring contributions from more than 30 artists, organized by Prem Krishnamurthy and Asad Raza
  • produce a 2-month Research & Development residency with multiple public programs and opportunities for public engagement
  • present 2 new pop-up projects selected from our annual Open Call
  • and kick off production for an expansive public digital archive in the lead-up to WPA’s 50th Anniversary
celebration of WPA’s first half century of supporting trailblazing art in DC!

And there are so many more fresh surprises that we’re still cooking up for you—we can’t wait to share it all with you in the new year!

Donate today to support WPA. Together, and only together, we will sustain DC’s legacy as a vibrant hub for contemporary art and thought.

Since its founding in 1975, Washington Project for the Arts has presented more than 500 exhibitions; 1,000 performances; 700 lectures, workshops, and symposia; 250 screenings; and 58 public art projects. Over the past four decades, nearly every major visual artist in the District has been part of WPA’s programming. After renewing its mission in 2018, WPA has carved out a new identity with a national and international scope, uplifting values values of collaboration, experimentation, and inclusivity in all of its programmatic and operational activities. wpadc.org
