Biography of Dr. Michael Keane

Michael Keane has served as Dean and Head of School at University College Dublin (UCD) School of Medicine, in Dublin, Ireland, since 2018. He is also Full Professor of Medicine and Therapeutics at UCD and St. Vincent's University Hospital (SVUH).

Michael Keane graduated from Ireland's University College Dublin (UCD) in 1989 and following initial clinical training in Dublin, moved to the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, to pursue a Fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine in 1995.

He subsequently took a faculty position at the University of Michigan in 1998.  In 2000, he moved to UCLA where he became Associate Professor of Medicine and Program Director for the UCLA Interstitial Lung Disease Center and was the Medical Director of the Medical Intensive Care Unit. He was also the Director of UCLA's Pulmonary and Critical Care Fellowship Training program.

Dr. Keane returned to UCD and SVUH in 2007 as Professor of Medicine and Therapeutics and Consultant Respiratory Physician. He has served as Chair of the Medical Board at SVUH and was a member of the hospital's Board of Directors from 2010-2019 and interim CEO from 2015-2018. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland and Royal College of Physicians London. He was appointed as Registrar at RCPI in 2021.

Professor Keane's research interests center on investigation into, and treatment of, inflammatory lung diseases; with a particular focus on pulmonary fibrosis. He is on the editorial board of the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine and is an Associate Editor for Respirology.

Trudeau Society is a professional organization which includes pulmonologists, thoracic surgeons, allergists, other specialty physicians, and allied health professionals (including respiratory therapists and nurses). With the mission of “Life Lung Learning,” the organization seeks to increase knowledge and awareness about the latest trends and research in chronic lung disease and patient care by hosting networking opportunities, esteemed speakers, professional conferences, and continuing education opportunities. Each year, Trudeau Society presents its annual lecture series where nationally recognized experts speak on current topics related to pulmonary and respiratory diseases and treatments. Trudeau Society also organizes the annual California Research Forum on Lung Health each Spring, and the annual Pacific Coast Lung Health Conference each Fall. 1. Please enter a Pay-by-Plate area (visitor parking) and park in any unreserved parking stall.
2. Go to the nearest parking pay station machine (pictured below) to obtain your courtesy parking permit.
3. When prompted, enter your license plate number into the pay station machine by using the number pad.
4. Please retain the permit as a receipt for parking.

Unless a vehicle does not have visible license plates, it is not necessary to display the permit. If a vehicle does not have license plates, please enter the last six digits of the VIN and display the permit on the driver’s side dash.
