Nearly 80% of freelancers deal with nonpayment. In many of these instances, the freelancer is owed less money that it costs to fight in court, or the freelancer doesn't have the means to hire legal counsel to take on well-resourced employers. For many years the National Writers Union has helped its members fight for money they are owed, and has won millions of dollars in judgements. Today the NWU Service Organization is building a Media Freelancers Legal Fund to expand this work to help more freelancers and to send a message to media companies who hire freelancers that when they don't pay, we will fight!
To kick off this new fund, the podcast TASTELAND is recording a live episode at the NWU Delegates Assembly, with proceeds going to the Media Freelancers Legal Fund.
