EBPCO Presents: Award-Winning Photojournalist Rod Lamkey

Event closed

Dysfunction Junction: from the US-Mexico border to Capitol Hill

Rod Lamkey will lead us on a journey through the analog years, transitioning into the digital world: reflecting on issues of natural disasters, conflict, immigration, mental illness, politics and the human condition.  What is it like to have a front row seat to history? To be present at moments of national and international importance. How does our work affect the lives of those we photograph, and ourselves as well. How do we keep a perspective in the moment?

Rod began his photojournalism career in the mid 1980's working as a freelancer for UnitedPress International and Agence France-Presse, in San Francisco, CA. In 1992 he joined theChicago Tribune as part of their staff, having worked since then at several newspapers, such as The Oakland Tribune (1993-2000) in California,  and The Washington Times, in Washington, D.C. (2000-2012).Over the past 20 years, Rod has devoted his time to working on long-term issue-relateddocumentaries affecting society's most vulnerable citizens. Some of his mostaccomplished works include the Israel-Hezbollah war in Lebanon (2006), drug addiction inrural America (2005), the recovery of southeast Louisiana and mental health care in apost-Katrina New Orleans (2006-present), and mental health issues from Rio de Janeiro,Brazil to Port au Prince, Haiti to New Orleans, Louisiana.
