"Hometown Showcase!"
In the spirit of our previous celebrations, we invite you to come back home to Cairo this spring as we host a city-wide Historical Cairo showcase. We will be partnering with several Cairo churches and private homes and, of course, the architectural jewels of our city: Cairo Public Library, the Cairo Custom House, Ward Chapel AME Church, and Magnolia Manor Museum - to provide opportunities to tour some of the city's best historical locations, some for the very first time.
While tax-deductible donations to our preservation efforts are welcome, this year the entire day's events will be absolutely FREE to the public!
SCHEDULE FOR SATURDAY, MAY 3:
9:45 to 12:00 -- Local churches and private homes tour (guided only). Locations to be announced. Will begin loading, first come first served, the Shawnee Mass Transit tour bus at the Southern Bank parking lot, 800 Washington Avenue at 9:30. If preferred, private vehicles can follow behind the bus. Tour will begin at 9:45 am.
PLEASE NOTE: Churches will be open from 10:00 - 12:00 but private home interiors are only viewable as part of the guided tour.
12:00 - 12:30 Prayer Gathering (optional attendance). Location TBA. Lunch on your own at local eateries.
12:30-3:30 Public project buildings ( Safford Library, Custom House, Magnolia Manor, and Ward Chapel AME Church) open for self-guided tours
3:30 - 5:00 Free public reception hosted by Harold S. Jones Fine Arts Center, 815 Commercial Avenue (old Khourie Brothers clothing store). Q & A about TCHPP, Inc. preservation efforts in Historical Cairo along with free refreshments.
WE CAN'T WAIT TO SEE YOU THERE!
