Workshop Information
We are thrilled to welcome the legendary adjudicator, choreographer, and director of the award-winning OzScot Highland Dancers Cheryl Roach OAM to teach an educational workshop on Sunday, March 30, 2025 at the British Embassy Washington. You do not have to participate in the Tattoo in order to attend the workshop.
10:00 - 11:00 AM: Pre-Premier Highland Technique
Open to competitive and recreational Beginner, Novice, and Intermediate dancers of all ages.
11:00 AM - 12:00 PM: Choreography Masterclass (including a Q&A with the OzScot Highland Dancers)
Open to both Pre-Premier and Premier dancers
12:00 - 1:00 PM: Premier Highland Technique
Open to competitive and recreational Premier dancers of all ages.
There is also a “Professional” ticket option for teachers and judges wishing to observe all three workshop classes. Up to 3 CPD hours may be available for RSOBHD judges. Professionals wishing to participate as a dancer should choose the “Premier” ticket.
Tattoo Information
Dancers will be participating in a "Mass Fling" act as cast members in The Washington Tattoo A Tartan Day Celebration under the direction of the Alexandria School of Highland Dance, with a minimum of two shows on Saturday, March 29, 2025. This act consists of
Part A) a brief choreographed section, followed by
Part B) a traditional 4-step Highland Fling.
All dancers will participate in the Fling (Part B) and must submit video #1. Premier dancers wishing to be considered for Part A must also submit video #2.
Dancers of all ages and levels are encouraged to apply, but dancers under the age of 12 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. During the Tattoo, dancers must wear a full Highland outfit in accordance with the RSOBHD dress code; dancers are responsible for providing their own outfits. Rehearsal schedules will be finalized at a later date; dancers participating in Part A will be asked to attend more rehearsals than dancers only participating in Part B. By applying, dancers are committing to attending all rehearsals and performances.
Video #1: 4-step Highland Fling
All dancers must submit a video of themselves doing a 4-step Fling with your choice of steps. During the Tattoo there will be set steps. Requirements:
Video #2: Choreography
Premier dancers wishing to participate in Part A, the choreographed section of the “Mass Fling” act, may indicate interest by including a link to a second YouTube video of themselves dancing a choreography. Dancers who do not submit a choreography video will not be considered for Part A. Requirements:
