Irvine Chinese Immersion Academy (ICIA) proudly presents the 2025 children's workshop of the original, Lunar New Year musical Year of the Beast (YOTB). This new bilingual work featuring all original music, libretto and book is written and composed by award-winning creative Karmia Chan Olutade, and performed by students of ICIA, a public charter school located in Irvine.
SYNOPSIS
Year of the Beast is set in Irvine, CA and revolves around a culturally diverse community of children, parents and educators who, on Lunar New Year's Eve, find themselves racing against the clock to solve a mystery posed by the Heavenly Emperor of Chinese lore, who has sent Nian -- the infamous Beast of Spring Festival -- and the 12 Chinese Zodiacs on a quest to rediscover the significance of Spring.
