Storytelling in Sports Marketing for Small Teams & Communities with Kayleigh Schmidt

In sports marketing, storytelling isn’t just a strategy—it’s the heartbeat of fan engagement, especially for small teams and local communities. This program explores how compelling narratives can build strong emotional connections, enhance brand loyalty, and drive support. Through real-world examples and practical techniques, participants will learn to craft and share stories that resonate with fans, sponsors, and stakeholders.

Presented by Kayleigh Schmidt, the Director of Marketing and Communications for the San Jose Barracuda, the minor league affiliate of the San Jose Sharks. Before heading to The Golden State, she worked for the Rapid City Rush, KOTA-TV, and KSFY (Dakota News Now). She loves creating content that sparks engagement and builds community. She was born in Minnesota, lived the military kid life, and ended up in Rapid City before starting high school. If she’s not working a hockey game, you can find her in the stands or on the ice teaching figure skating lessons. She also loves finding the perfect concert or hiking trail no matter the distance.
