Who we are:

Based in Brooklyn, NY, JKDC is a professional all-female ensemble founded by King, interweaving multiple dance forms (ballet, jazz, and modern) with human behavior to arouse diverse perspectives and awaken a shift in our aesthetic values and emotional influences. It addresses preconceived ideas and delicate topics through the art of storytelling - some metaphoric, some literal, creating a richly textured and emotional landscape of interdisciplinary art.

We are passionate about creating works that stimulate self-discovery and comprehension of life complexities in their simplest form, provoking audiences to explore territories of the mind and heart. It believes dance is a way to generate cultural bridges, a catalyst to release fears, encourage joy, and open dialogue on events that shake our social and personal world. Additionally, it offers artistic outlets for young emerging dancers and the creative aging to work with JK/JKDC.

PAST AUDIENCE RESPONSES

Whether interpreted as internal or interpersonal the emotion in each one(pieces) was easily related to and brought forward different emotions and reflections in each member of the audience. So while everyone has different stories and experiences it didn’t only speak to one person. Each performance showcased a story that anyone can relate to…..- Anna Lanman, Senior Coordinator/CTA Company

…felt the impact of human connection in both familiar and new ways. The narratives expressed told stories of finding oneself along with exposing real experiences of youth today. The show offered insight and reflection through contemporary pieces that kept you wanting more.' - Monica Negron, teacher.

…..Your piece reminded me that art is often a better way to address this sort of thing than inspirational speakers or other activities. I was floored by the range and power of the emotions on the stage,..….. - Eliza McFeely - History Department -  Moorestown Friends High School

Most people know me as an actress, but the truth of it is that I started as a dancer so my heart is always first and foremost in the dance world. The most powerful women are up there and it's just an empowering dance company.... The choreography is so fluid, so great, so special. - Ilene Kristen/Actress, ABC's General Hospital, One Life To Live, Ryan's Hope

I was literally mesmerized by Joyce King's choreography and the incredible skill of her dancers. I could not stop feeling like I was witnessing something very very important. I cannot wait to see them again.  - Juliet Cummings, Dir., The Mark Shaw Photographic Archive

It's been several weeks since I attended the JKing dance concert, and yet each piece remains vividly etched in my mind, which says a lot about the impact of these poignant vignettes..... I was spellbound. Beautiful work!  - Rosalinde Block, Author, NYC

King has given the little girls inside us a chance to scream without uttering a sound, beautiful, breathtakingly beautiful. - Maria Gentile, Singer/Songwriter, NYC
