Our panelists will explore the unique challenges faced by migrant women and girls in accessing menstrual health resources, share stories from their work, and highlight solutions to address period poverty in displaced communities. Join us for an engaging conversation that sheds light on this critical yet often overlooked issue.Our distinguished speaker lists include:  Rachel Soeiro is an accomplished family physician with over 15 years of extensive national and international experience in primary healthcare. She is an expert in designing, implementing, training, and evaluating capacity-strengthening programs for vulnerable populations. Her programs include sexual and reproductive health, mother-to-child HIV prevention, nutrition, and malaria programs. She holds a Master's degree in Child and Adolescent Health and a PhD in Sexual and Reproductive Health from the State University of Campinas. Rachel spent three years with Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) in Niger, South Sudan, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Guinea. In Brazil, she worked as an assistant professor at the Outreach Clinic for the Homeless in Campinas and at the State University of Campinas for eight years. During this time, she also supervised doctors in the "Mais Médicos" (More Doctors) program, ensuring standard operating procedures in remote areas. From 2022-2023, she provided her expertise as an advisor to a USAID-funded project in a COVID-19 response in the nine states of the Brazilian Amazon. She was responsible for coordinating 24 projects from community-based organizations. Currently, she works as an interim at the Brazilian Medical Unit (MSF), leading management efforts to improve health outcomes within MSF's projects in Brazil and worldwide. Sia Towo is the Managing Director of Femme International, a non-profit offering menstrual sexual reproductive health (MSRH) education, research, and product distribution in East Africa. She understands the complexities of grassroots work, especially marginalised groups, having volunteered and worked with various grassroots organisations for nearly 10 years. Sia aspires to drive change in education and health policy to improve menstrual health and promote gender equality in Tanzania. She is an aspiring pan-African leader looking to disrupt the several barriers to the development of women's rights in Africa. Maaza, born in Sudan, spent her formative years in Egypt, immersed in a large and loving community of displaced Sudanese people. Her family emigrated to the United States in the early 2000s and has made MA their permanent home. Inspired by stories from her upbringing, she pursued a BA in Political Science concentrating on the African diaspora. Maaza is deeply passionate about Sudan and is committed to initiatives that prioritize and empower civilians currently trapped in the midst of conflict.  Noha Awais, co-founder and president of the White Nile Youth Association (WNYA), an organization dedicated to advocating for Sudanese and South Sudanese communities. One of our key initiatives, Period Palooza, focuses on providing period kits to internally and externally displaced people impacted by the ongoing war in Sudan. Menstrual health is often overlooked in crisis settings, yet it remains a fundamental need.
