A FOREST SURROUNDS POETS: UKRAINIAN POETRY PERFORMED

In English with some Ukrainian

Presented at the Ukrainian Institute of America by Yara Arts Group, with a wine reception following the program sponsored by Razom for Ukraine.

Yara Arts Group, a resident company at La MaMa Experimental Theater, pays tribute to the Ukrainian poets who have been destroyed for generations.

In "A Forest Surrounds Poets", Yara artists perform poetry by Amelina, Kurbas, Tychyna, Svidzinsky, Semenko, Vlyyzko and Iohansen, accompanied by master bandura player Julian Kytasty. They also present a concert version of the third act of "Radio 477!" by Serhiy Zhadan, accompanied by composer Anthony Colman. The act draws a connection between the destruction of Ukrainian culture in the purges in the early 20th century and the assault on Kharkiv in the first days of the russian invasion in 2022. Olena Stiazhkina will speak about Victoria Amelina and the New York Literary Festival that Amelina founded in Ukraine.

"A Forest Surrounds Poets" is part of the Ukrainian Cultural Festival.
