Building Brighter Tomorrows through Community Health Innovations: A Two-Day Event

February 27-28, 2025

Join us for the Desmond P. Kelly Nurturing Developing Minds Conference, hosted by the Institute for Child Success (ICS) and SC LEND  on Thursday February 27 and the IACH Community Health Forum hosted by the Institute for the Advancement of Community Health at Furman University on Friday February 28.

Both events will be held at the Younts Conference Center at Furman University. Attendees are welcome to join for either day or receive a discounted registration to attend for both.

Keynote Speakers

Thursday February 27 - Nurturing Developing Minds

Dr. Joseph L. Wright, M.D., M.P.H., FAAP, is the first Chief Health Equity Officer of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) as well as senior vice president of equity initiatives at AAP. Dr. Wright provides guidance to the AAP Board of Directors, the CEO and AAP leadership on all health equity, diversity and inclusion efforts. He works to integrate clinical, public health and societal perspectives and approaches to improve health and health care disparities. Dr. Wright is a former member of the AAP Board of Directors (2020-'22) and past chair of the AAP Committee on Equity. He also was the lead author of the AAP policy statements Eliminating Race-Based Medicine and Truth, Reconciliation and Transformation: Continuing on the Path to Equity.

Friday February 28 - Community Health Forum

Brian C. Castrucci, DrPh, is President & Chief Executive Officer of the de Beaumont Foundation 
He is an epidemiologist, public health practitioner, and fierce advocate for the public’s health. Brian’s strategic vision emphasizes collaboration between public health and various sectors, effective communication, and the enhancement of the nation’s public health infrastructure. His efforts have led to the development of the nation’s largest survey of the government public health workforce, the advancement of policies in major cities, the formation of business-public health partnerships, improvements in public health communication, and the strengthening of connections between clinical medicine and public health. He is also focused on building local health data ecosystems that prioritize health justice.

For Thursday, registrants will be asked to select their break-out sessions in advance; these can be changed later..

Both days of the event will be held at the Younts Conference Center on the beautiful campus of Furman University in Greenville, SC. Free and ample parking is available on-site. For your GPS, please use the address 2005 Rugby Rd, Greenville, SC 29613 as this will get you closest to the Younts Center.

For those traveling from outside of the area, the Younts Center is a 35 minute drive from the Greenville-Spartanburg Airport (GSP). A discounted rate of $119 is available at the nearby Hampton Inn - Travelers Rest, just a 5 minute drive from the venue. You can book a discounted room here. 

Registration

Regular-price registration is $150 for the Thursday event, $75 for the Friday morning event, and a discounted rate of $175 for both days. Discounted registrations are available for:

  • Students may use code STUDENT for a 50% discount. You must use your .edu email address to receive this discount.
  • Groups of 5 or more can receive a 20% discount by using coupon code GROUP - please book all members of your group at the same time (select the number of tickets needed in the first screen). If this is not possible, please reach out for accommodation.
  • If you cannot pay by credit card, and require an invoice please use the code INVOICE on the registration page. You will not make a payment today but will receive an invoice for payment from ICS by email. If your organization has specific requirements which must be included in an invoice, please contact ICS with that information after completing your registration.
  • For those registering  as speakers or from SC LEND or the Planning Committee, you will receive the appropriate code from your contact at ICS or IACH.

Professional Development

This event will be submitted for Continuing Medical Education (CME) credits as well as created for early educators through the SC Endeavors system. We will confirm the process for obtaining credits once these have been approved. If you need credits for another system, we encourage you to utilize the system for CMEs which will provide documentation you may submit to your approval board.
