The Corvallis Guitar Society presents the 6th Corvallis Guitar Festival, November 15th and 16th at the Good Samaritan Episcopal Church (333 NW 35th St, Corvallis)



California virtuoso Connie Sheu opens the festival on Nov. 15 at 7:00pmDr. Connie Sheu is a dynamic guitarist, devoted pedagogue, and ardent advocate of classical guitar. In demand as both a soloist and chamber musician, her playing has been hailed by the New York Sun as “excellent, ruminative... scholarly." Past performances have brought her to Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall, 92nd St Y, Merkin Hall, Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall; venues in Moldova, Italy, Hungary; and across the United States. Dr. Sheu studied at Columbia University, The Juilliard School, and the USC Thornton School of Music. She currently teaches at Pomona College and the Colburn School in Los Angeles.



The star on Saturday, Nov. 16 at 7:00pm is Tal Hurwitz.  
Classical guitarist Tal Hurwitz has garnered international acclaim in concerts and masterclasses around the world, showcasing his reputation for technical mastery and artistic clarity. His devotion for music, desire for beauty and aesthetics in interpretation, and his constant search to combine the old with the new have led to an extensive performance career, including notable venues such as the Moscow House of Music, the Großer Saal of the Stiftung Mozarteum and the Sala de Espectáculos in Mexico. In addition he was awarded top prizes as both a performer and composer in numerous international competitions. 


Tal Hurwitz holds two bachelor’s and a master’s degrees in music, obtained while studying under some of the world’s most renowned pedagogues, first in Israel with Joseph Urshalmi and then in Europe with Costas Cotsiolis, Marco Tamayo, and Carlo Marchione. In addition, he studied composition with Adam Stratyevsky.


World class composers have dedicated works for him, such as; Nikita Koshkin, Daniel Akiva, Wulfin Lieske and Ariel Man.  Tal's debut recording 'GuitarRecital' was published in 2023 by Emmaya Records.


Opening for both artists at 7pm is the Oregon State University Guitar Ensemble, directed by Dr. Cameron O’Connor.

2:45 - 4:45 pm: Luthier exhibit and demonstrations (hear guitars made by the best PNW guitar builders!)
