Whether a high school athlete, or not, becoming a junior umpire in a local Little League program offers teens a way to grow their self-esteem and gain experience in a challenging role for 13-17 year old's to learn leadership, responsibility, and accountability. Skilled umpires are in high demand at all levels all over the country. This is a solid foundation for a great part-time job in college too.
District 23 Board Leadership is in complete support of this program. We will be working with the individual leagues to create opportunities, rewards, and recognition for Junior Umpires. There will be increased pressure on parents and spectators to behave appropriately and any abuse towards umpires will be addressed.
