Oak Ridge Cemetery Twilight Tour

Event closed

We all know and love Rose Hill Cemetery, but what do you know about Oak Ridge? Oak Ridge Cemetery, also established in 1840, was historically the section of Rose Hill that was reserved for African Americans. Rose Hill Preservation and Restoration, Inc. has spent many work days clearing out weeds, brush, and invasive plants to uncover some of the many graves at Oak Ridge that have been neglected over the years. We are eager to share this work with the community!

Join us for a twilight tour of Oak Ridge Cemetery lead by local historian Kathleen O'Neal on August 10th at 7pm. We will learn more about the history of Oak Ridge and the people who were interred there. This project is a collaboration between Historic Macon and Rose Hill Preservation and Restoration, Inc. Space is limited, so reserve your spot sooner rather than later!

This hour long guided walking tour will take us across paved roads, but participants will have the opportunity to veer off the path onto uneven footing to see these recently uncovered graves up close. Please wear sensible shoes and be mindful of any mobility issues before you choose to step off the path.

In the event of inclement weather, this event will be rescheduled to a later date.
