Social and Cultural Foundations (BIPOC and LGBTQIA2S+ Considerations)
This workshop will focus on creating a safe space to analyze the historical barriers to care, appraise the impact of social class and privilege and navigate cultural competency. It is our hope that this training will help lay a foundation that creates more safety for clients from marginalized identities.
Learning Objectives:
-Analyze the historical context and contemporary barriers to mental health care experienced by BIPOC and LGBTQIA2S+ communities.
-Apply multicultural competency skills to enhance understanding and create safety towards diverse cultural backgrounds and identities.
-Appraise the impact of social class and privilege on mental health disparities within diverse communities.
-Assess societal concerns related to the intersectionality of race, sexual orientation, and gender identity in mental health care.
-Develop the ability to name and effectively navigate microaggressions in mental health care settings.
-Utilize cultural humility as a framework for addressing power dynamics and promoting equity in mental health care.
