La contestation des OGM porte au-delà d'une critique de la technique et de la science : elle inclut des enjeux de gouvernance, de concentration économique et d'influence des lobbies sur les institutions et les agriculteurs. Malgré la préoccupation généralisée du grand public sur le sujet des biotechnologies, l'introduction de l'édition génomique ouvre un nouveau chapitre dans lequel le Canada élargit, plutôt que restreint, leur mise en circulation.

Novelty in biotechnologies: between protest, science and lobbies

The protest against GMOs goes beyond a criticism of technology and science: it includes issues of governance, economic concentration and the influence of lobbies on institutions and farmers. Despite the general public's concern on the subject of biotechnologies, the introduction of genome editing opens a new chapter in which Canada is expanding, rather than restricting, their circulation.
