Le développement de cultivars adaptés pour les agriculteur.trice.s a été historiquement établi comme étant une responsabilité gouvernementale afin de favoriser la sécurité alimentaire et la croissance de l'industrie agricole. Depuis les années 1980, les investissements publics dans la recherche génétique ont fortement diminué. Cette table ronde sera l'occasion de faire un survol des programmes de développement variétaux au Québec, de comprendre leurs objectifs et leur contribution au secteur agricole au regard d'attentes sociétales en évolution.

Round table - Research and development of new varieties in agriculture

The development of suitable cultivars for farmers has historically been established as a government responsibility to promote food security and growth of the agricultural industry. Since the 1980s, public investment in genetic research has declined sharply. This roundtable will be an opportunity to provide an overview of varietal development programs in Quebec, to understand their objectives and their contribution to the agricultural sector in light of evolving societal expectations. Conference exclusively offered in French.
