The Toast & Roast of Dara Jemmott

Black women deserve the best of everything, and this year, we’re celebrating one of the best to ever do it! On her birthday, the incomparable Dara Jemmott—Brooklyn-based comedian, actress, voiceover artist, and beloved friend—is being honored with an evening of laughter, music, and love at The Toast & Roast of Dara Jemmott, hosted by C.Joi Sanchez.

What’s a Toast and Roast?

A toast is an opportunity to drink to, honor, pledge to, or salute someone remarkable. A roast is a playful way of making fun of someone as a tribute to their unique qualities and impact. This event combines both in a celebration of Dara’s comedic brilliance and enduring friendships.

About Dara Jemmott

Dara is no stranger to the spotlight. Performing since the age of three, she has graced stages across the U.S., U.K., and Spain. Her acting chops and comedic timing earned her accolades, including Best Actor - Gold Category at the 2021 Best Actors Awards New York. You might recognize Dara from her roles in acclaimed shorts like Where’s My White Privilege?—featured in the Just For Laughs Festival—or from her performances at the Black Women in Comedy Festival and BET.

When Dara isn’t bringing audiences to tears with laughter, she’s inspiring young talents through her teaching work with Stand Up Girls and Little Humans/Big Dreams or co-hosting her podcast, Comedians for Hire, where she chronicles her transition from corporate life to comedy.

Who’s on the Mic?

An illustrious lineup of comedians and musicians will make this an unforgettable night:

  • Whitney Chanel: A powerhouse NYC comedian seen on VH1, Bravo, and BuzzFeed, Whitney brings authentic humor and relatable stories to the stage.
  • Dave Lester: A 20-year veteran and social critic with a no-nonsense style, Dave’s Amazon Prime special And How Did That Make You Feel? is a must-watch.
  • Stephen Bolles: High-energy with golden retriever vibes, Stephen has been lighting up NYC’s top comedy clubs since 2013.
  • Divya Gunasekaran: A writer and standup comedian featured on Netflix Is a Joke and PBS, Divya’s humor is sharp and endlessly entertaining.
  • Chewy May: A festival favorite, Chewy’s comedic prowess has taken her across the nation.
  • Eli Ramos: A rising star with a laid-back style, Eli’s wit shines in venues across the city (and maybe the Cellar someday, if they build a ramp).

…and more surprises!
