This ceramic salad or fruit bowl and flower vase are made by Point Reyes-bassed artist Gordon Bryan. Gordon's vessels and sculptural works play with texture and forms from nature with layered glaze applications. His terracotta and stoneware pieces reflect pre-industrial ceramics and an interpretation of the ancient cretaceous period when flowering plants thrived on Earth. His ornately embellished floreros and vessels offer a glimpse into the dream world of geologic time. He became known for his highly original, artistic, and finely crafted tiles and murals that married art and function. Bryan earned his BFA in painting and sculpture from the University of California, Berkeley, studying under Elmer Bischoff and Sidney Gordon. In 1982, he established his ceramic studio, Blue Slide Art Tile, in downtown Point Reyes Station. Today, he creates hand-built ceramics that express both the imagined and the real and explore a balance of interior and exterior life.

(6) Plates at 7 1/2 inches a piece by Cove Ceramics. Inspired by Tomales Bay, Caitlin Sullivan fuses earth and sea to create hand-built, hand-painted pottery. The rich warmth of the red and black clays radiate through her cool, clean glazing. Caitlin plays with the beauty of imperfection, with signature forms and brush strokes, to make each work an authentic and unique piece of pottery. Traditional low-fire and rose color of the terra cotta clay complement the Maiolica style glazing. Originally brought to Italy by way of Moorish Spain from the island of Majorca, Maiolica glazing uses light, sheer painting on top of a white, opaque wash. Caitlin trained in the watercolor Maiolica technique under well-known Point Reyes Station, CA artist Laurie Curtis. All of the stains are non-toxic and lead-free.

This unique print is made by Point Reyes-based artist John Gnorski. With a relatively limited palette of materials – wood, ink, paper, paint – and a restless curiosity, John makes work that lingers in the liminal space between representation and abstraction, “fine” art and craft, grounded and nearly weightless. Birds made of trees, line drawings manifested as three dimensional objects, prints embracing the accidental and crude, “kites” of bent wood and rice paper, and who knows what tomorrow may bring.

Tom Killian's (artist proof 2) of Black Mountain. This view of the iconic Black Mountain (also known as Elephant Mountain and Coyote’s Knuckles) from Inverness Ridge was sketched in the spring of 2019 from a dirt road above the artist’s studio. The town of Pt. Reyes Station appears on far right, above the wetlands at the upper end of Tomales Bay. This 6 color-layer multi-block print was completed in late 2020 in an edition of 185 plus 20 artist’s proofs and 12 working proofs. Only a few working proofs remain, these all are on Masa paper with various unique colorings and over-printings, but they include all the colors and are worth displaying.

Beautiful print (1/200) by local artist Laurie Sawyer. Laurie Sawyer grew up on the shores of the Pacific Ocean in Southern California. Today, she lives in Northern California, where her family runs a business growing shellfish in Tomales Bay and she owns a flower shop, Flower Bed Florals, with her daughter Clair. Working primarily in life drawing, Sawyer’s interests are the concern and care for the ocean. She has a BFA from the Art Center College of Design and, more recently, a Graduate Degree in Science Illustration from CSU Monterey Bay.
Nancy Stein print (valued at $50) item
Nancy Stein print (valued at $50)
US$25

Starting bid

Nancy Stein has explored the subject of ocean waves in oil painting, pastels and etchings since 2000. Pastel is a rich, soft medium, very immediate and colorful, but one of a kind. These works are usually large and dramatic. Etchings are laborious to make, taking much time to etch grooves into a copper plate. When the plate is finished, she prints it by hand on a small etching press in her studio. Editions of 60 prints can be made, which makes the etching much less costly, and therefore, available to more people. Living in Point Reyes provides constant inspiration for her work. Nancy was born in Portland, Oregon and studied at the University of Maryland, L'Ecole des Beaux Arts in Strasbourg, France, and CCAC in Oakland. She received a BFA in Printmaking at CCAC, and an MFA from San Francisco State in 1985. Nancy has lived in Pt. Reyes since 1975. She has worked for many years as a garden designer in the area, as well as maintaining an active art career, and building her own home on forested Inverness Ridge.

Kai Samuels-Davis is a New York born artist living and working in Inverness, CA. He attended classes at the Woodstock School of Art at the age of 16, followed by a stint at the Art Students League of New York the following year. In 2002 he received his Bachelors in Fine Arts degree at State University of New York Purchase before moving to California where he completed the graduate program in film at Art Center College of Design in 2006. Though not directly pursuing film, cinematic themes often arise in his paintings, giving them the sense of being fragments of a larger framework of thoughts. His work is composed mainly of portraits and figures focusing on introspective moments we keep to ourselves. By primarily using found imagery as reference material, a separation is created between artist and subject, allowing the imagery to distance itself from representing specific individuals. The portraits instead change and evolve into a new persona which is abstracted and intentionally ambiguous. This gives the viewer the opportunity to create their own narrative, meaning or associations and makes each piece uniquely personal. Painting primarily with oils on wood using a combination of brushes and metal and rubber scrapers, paint is applied layer upon layer highlighting its history and texture. Structures and spaces are fragmented or blurred to accentuate the balance between distraction and clarity in daily thought. The images are cerebral and visceral, creating a mood of melancholy and solitude with an appreciation for their necessity and beauty. 16" high x 20" wide Printed on canvas, mounted
